The Greenhouse Initiative

CGR is partnering with the Turning Point Center of Rutland this summer to operate two greenhouses in Rutland. One greenhouse is located on the CGR River Street Campus and the other is located at the Turning Point Center of Rutland.

These greenhouses were constructed thanks to the help of numerous members of the community who came together to donate their time, energy, and knowledge of building to make the greenhouses go from concept to reality.

Currently, we are planting a wide-array of plant life in the greenhouses. The River Street Campus Greenhouse is filled with planted produce. Some of the produce includes tomatoes, cucumbers, onions, squash, honey dew, chives, basil, mint, and sweet pepper. The State Street Greenhouse also has its fair share of produce, but a huge bulk of that particular crop is made up of a lot of flower variations. This includes sweat peas, morning glory’s, sunflowers, daisy’s, ect.

Members of the community are always welcomed to utilize the greenhouses to plant and grow. We hope to engage members of the community to take part in this initiative that isn’t just fun, but its also good for the environment.

When the produce and flowers in the greenhouses are matured, we will be dispersing them to local businesses and members of the communities. There will be no set prices on the products of the greenhouses. Instead, we aim to receive suggested donations for the goods produced in the greenhouses. All proceeds from the greenhouses will go to support CGR and the Turning Point Center of Rutland.
