  • Alex Adams - Board President

Alex grew up in Rutland City and graduated from Rutland High School in 2007. He attended Plymouth State University and studied at the University of Winchester in England before he allowed alcoholism and addiction to consume him. He sought help at Hazelden in Minnesota and progressed through their primary and extended treatment programs, as well as their halfway house in St. Paul. He transitioned to sober living and worked at a Sears for three years while saving to return east in 2014. He completed his bachelor’s degree at Castleton University in 2016 studying history, geography, economics, and politics, graduating with a 3.95 GPA before pursuing certifications in IT and networking. He progressed in that field and now utilizes those skills as a Relay Technician for Green Mountain Power, taking night classes to earn his electrical degree.

Additionally, Alex serves on the Rutland City Board of Aldermen and coaches youth soccer. He has not maintained continuous sobriety; his numerous falters are a testament to the struggles faced by many in recovery. In 2023 a viral infection caused him to experience significant heart failure, providing him the motivation he needed to fully embrace sobriety. Today, Adams shares his experience, strength, and hope while giving back to the Rutland community that has picked him up, dusted him off, and believed in him time and time again.
